Gift for Anne & Eli for their nuptials

A brief note To Anne whom we believe to have worked for Mr Barber in his legal office.

Transcription  re TB_letter-1866- 08-07 TO Anne

My dear Anne,

Accept the sincerest congratulations of our united family for yourself and Eli on your approaching nuptials. The time is so short that we are not prepared and cannot decide what presents would

be most suitable and therefore we decided to make you our gifts in money leaving you both to dispose of it in the way that you think best. Accept our united love and hearty wishes for your happiness and prosperity.

Believe me

My dear Anne,

Yours is very affectionately

Thos. Barber

Ambassadors' Notes are commentaries added by the original founders of the Thomas Jackson letters and are intended to add context to the transcription that proceeds them. Other comments by visitors may have been offered in Recent Research and Commentaries in the seventh panel of the homepage.

Unfortunately the Ambassadors have no knowledge at this time of the Eli who is referred to her husband to be.  The only logical explanation is that Eli was the nickname of William Slater who in fact became her husband.
