Here is striking evidence that history from 1800s has some clear parallels today. Now here in USA in 2014, there is a national campaign (in response to police killing of an unarmed black man) that has taken as its slogan “Black Lives Matter”. That is eerily similar to Thomas Jackson’s statement that after the fact of the “infamous murder of thousands of the poor, helpless emancipated slaves, who ought to have been the wards of our Nation and their lives held as sacred as the life of any white American in these United States.“
