It occurs to us that these Newspaper Reports of Bankruptcies all relate to businesses and may be intended to serve as warnings for others who may be thinking of doing business with the companies mentioned. It is still surprising to find John Jackson’s bankruptcy being reported in a national newspaper that effectively is based in Scotland, a different country in the United Kingdom. Also we note that John Jackson is identified as a rope maker but also a dealer and chapman. The latter was the word often for an itinerant seller of cheapish goods, similar to a peddler in modern usage
