Who was Caleb Slater?

Summary

Caleb Slater was the son of Charles Slater and also the first cousin of Thomas Jackson, the main author of this collection of historical letters.

We know that Caleb sent many letters including his “likeness” back to Thomas but sadly no one has been able to locate a single letter authored by Caleb. Like Thomas Jackson, Caleb was a rope maker as was his father Charles . He lived in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, only about 10 miles from Ilkeston where Thomas and his father also manufactured ropes. The two kept in contact all their long lives, long after Thomas Jackson had moved to live in Reading, Pennsylvania.
