Opportunities to Benefit from These Resourse
The Friends of Thomas Jackson represent a diverse group of professional historians and amateur enthusiasts who seek to expand awareness and use of these valuable records by future generations. Their mission includes:
- Supporting the preservation and continuing free access to the digital version of the entire Thomas Jackson Letters collection.
Although all the original documents making up this collection are safely curated in the Library of Congress, this main website (https://thomasjacksonletters.com) is intended to provide ready access to the entire collection for those who may not be able to go to Washington to view the originals.
- Encouraging personal projects utilizing this extensive collection of primary sources accumulated from all known locations.
All the members of FOTJ are conscious that there are abundant opportunities for new researchers to reassess and generate their own theories about how these resources elaborate and enrich important broader stories about the pivotal times of America’s political and social history
- Facilitating research and publication opportunities by collaboration with interested scholars and related subject experts.
In particular FOTJ offers to assist newcomers who wish to work on the collection and seek initial guidance. Some of the pioneers who best know the details of the collection are now reaching retirement and so for practical reasons, early enquires are encouraged!
